Women and World Religions by Lucinda Joy Peach,

Women and World Religions by Lucinda Joy Peach,
The title of this anthology, Women and World Religions, was chosen deliberately to emphasize that its primary focus is on "actual" women and their experiences as active agents of their spiritual lives--as opposed to women in religion as goddesses or other images and symbols of females that are found in religious myths, art, and scriptures. This book explores how women from many parts of the world have thought about, acted, and been treated as members of a religious tradition. Introductory text for each of the major world religions lays the foundation for readings that were selected with an eye toward answering such questions as: How have women practiced religion? Have their beliefs and rituals differed from those of men? How have women within the major world religions negotiated their spiritual lives within traditions that are not only male dominated, but also sexist and patriarchal? Have they successfully carved out a "separate sphere" for their own spiritual activities, or are their religious lives in large part defined for them by male leaders? How has the status of women changed within religions, both historically and in terms of future prospects? This fresh approach to the study of women's religious experiences offers important insights into the significance of religion in societies around the world.

Indian Religions: A Historical Reader of Spiritual Expression and Experience by Peter Heehs,
Indian Religions: A Historical Reader of Spiritual Expression and Experience by Peter Heehs,
Indian Religions is an expansive collection of the key written and oral texts by spiritual teachers from South Asia, covering 3,500 years and all the major traditions--Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, and "new" Indian religions. The volume provides clear translations of extracts from original documents and texts from most of the well-known and many of the lesser-known individuals and traditions. Overlapping parts and sections each comprise a historically and thematically defined stage of a tradition. The reader is thus able to follow the chronological development of the various traditions without isolating them from one another. Each section includes a context-setting introduction which provides historical, cultural, and textual background. A general introduction lays the foundations for the text's theoretical framework and approach. Indian Religions is the most complete and best-organized anthology of Indian religious/spiritual texts published to date. It serves as an introduction to the history of religions in South Asia, and will appeal to readers interested in Indian and Eastern religions as well as students of religion and South Asian culture.

Religion & Ethics Newsweekly - Religion & Ethics Newsweekly, hosted by veteran journalist Bob Abernethy, is the only American TV newsmagazine program devoted entirely to the news of religion and spirituality, and major ethical issues. Produced by Thirteen/WNET New York, the program explores the top moral questions facing the country and profiles the most interesting people and groups in the world of religion and ethics.

Approaches to distinguishing religion from non-religion - Those concerned with distinguishing religion from non-religion divide into two broadly defined schools of thought: function-based and form-based.

Criticism of Religion - The criticism of religion includes criticism of the concept of religion itself, criticism of the practice of religion, and criticism of the consequences of religion on humanity as a whole. The singular word religion is used here referring to the concept of religion, rather than a particular religion or any group of religions.

Dark Spirituality - Dark Spirituality is a broad term used to describe the Left Hand Path religions, however small groups of people are beginning to define themselves as dark spiritualist without identifying themselves as practicing any of the well known left hand paths. The religion believes all spiritualities divide into a dark spirituality/light spirituality dichotomy.
